What is an asphalt-rubber dispersion?

Asphalt-rubber dispersion is a modern emulsion-based waterproofing material that surpasses both domestic and foreign materials of this type in terms of its performance and utilisation properties, combining the advantages of traditional bituminous materials with those of rubber materials. It is a new, original material intended for waterproofing purposes in construction and industry. It was produced on the basis of a patent from the Central Research and Development Centre of the Building Insulation Industry in Katowice and has been thoroughly and effectively tested and improved in numerous trials.

Definition of the product

An asphalt-rubber dispersion is a dispersed system (emulsion) consisting of bitumen, rubber, mineral fillers, vulcanising agents (cross-linking agents) and water, whereby the water is the continuous phase, i.e. the outer phase of the system. The bitumen and rubber are present in the fineness characteristic of dispersed systems (emulsions), i.e. in the form of particles with a size of approx. 0.1 – 0.5 microns. The durability of the system is ensured by the addition of surfactants.

What are the advantages of an asphalt rubber dispersion?

The asphalt-rubber dispersion is a homogeneous, brown-coloured paste with a thick or pasty consistency and has thixotropic properties, i.e. its apparent viscosity appears higher than its actual viscosity (whipping cream phenomenon). However, this is the correct working consistency, which allows free, easy, cold spreading on the surface to be insulated, with almost no effort required (and no need to heat the material). The paste-like consistency and thixotropic properties also make it possible to apply insulation layers of approx. 1 mm in one operation without sloping or vertical surfaces running off. The asphalt rubber dispersion can also be applied to damp substrates without fear of loss of adhesion, and in many cases better adhesion is even achieved on damp substrates (e.g. concrete). In addition, abizol, isoplast, unlike the well-known cold-mixed binders, contains no organic solvents, is odourless, non-flammable, non-toxic and completely safe to use.

Number of dispersion layers during renovation

1. roof structure
2. primer layer 0.5-1 kg/m2
3. reinforcement layer
4/5/6 Covering layer -3-4 kg/m2
7. mineral dust or UV protective paint

2-4 kg Dispersion m2

For use on damaged roofs and those prone to cracking due to stress and vibration.

Advantages

1. Flexibility
2. Homogeneous surface without joints and seams
3. No need to remove the old roof surface
4. Short lead time (10,000 m2 in 30 days)
5. Old coverings can be reused
6. Guaranteed tightness
7. Competitive prices compared to standard technologies
